About The Old Wulfs U16's

At Old Wulfrunians, we believe football is for everyone. No matter a family’s financial situation, every child deserves the opportunity to play the game they love, make memories and feel part of something special.

We are more than just a football club — we are a family. When one of our players had his bike stolen, the Old Wulfs family came together. We organised fundraising events to help get him a new set of wheels, taking some of the pressure away from his family. That family-first approach is at the heart of who we are.

Our commitment goes beyond the football pitch. We are proud to support charity events, including Dragon Boat racing at Himley Park in Dudley, helping to raise funds that make football more accessible and affordable for players and their families. Through sponsorships, fundraising and grassroots initiatives, our mission is simple: remove barriers and give every child the opportunity to enjoy football, develop their confidence and grow as a player and as a person.

Our roots run deep. The Old Wulfs journey began in 2017, when Phil Plant founded the team. From humble beginnings, with Sunday training sessions and just a handful of players, the team has grown into an important part of Old Wulfrunians. Along the way, we have celebrated promotions, lifted trophies and built strong partnerships with organisations that share our values, including our ongoing support from 1HUTCH.

While success on the pitch is something we are incredibly proud of, what matters most is the people behind the badge. Whether we are celebrating a win, supporting a teammate through a difficult time or cheering each other on from the sidelines, we stand together. We look after one another, support one another and make sure nobody feels left behind.

This is Old Wulfs.
This is family.
This is the heart of Old Wulfs

The Story of Old Wulfs: From Humble Beginnings to Rising Stars

It all kicked off in August 2017, when Phil Plant and Tom Hill decided to turn their football dreams into reality by forming their own team, WV Athletic. Starting with just a handful of players, the squad trained once a week on Sundays at Bantock Park and Colton Hills School. Despite missing the registration deadline for their first season, the team kept the spirit alive, training hard and building momentum. By June 2018, WV Athletic entered their first competitive tournament in Oldbury. The results didn’t go their way, but the effort and team spirit set the tone for their journey ahead.

The Walsall League soon became home for WV Athletic, where they hit the ground running. Their league debut on 16th September 2018, ended in a solid 1-1 draw, followed by a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory in their second match. After three strong seasons, the team took a bold step forward, joining the prestigious Old Wulfrunians club - a move that connected them to a rich footballing legacy.

This new chapter meant changes: Tom Hill moved on, leaving Phil Plant to step into the managerial role, with Greg Allen as his trusted assistant. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed their first match as Old Wulfrunians, but the wait ended on 27th September 2020. Though the game ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bilbrook Juniors, the team’s determination only grew stronger.

Fast forward to May 8, 2022, and Old Wulfrunians had plenty to celebrate - lifting the league cup and clinching the league title. The summer of 2022 brought another exciting milestone when the club partnered with 1HUTCH, a sponsor who shared their passion and vision. With support from the sidelines, the team embarked on the 2022 season in Division 5, finishing second and earning promotion. The momentum didn’t stop there. By September 2023, the team faced tougher competition in Division 4, but true to their fighting spirit, they secured promotion again, finishing fourth.

2024 – A Tough Season in Division 3
The 2024 season saw Old Wulfrunians step up to Division 3 following two consecutive promotions. It was a massive challenge, and despite the lads showing incredible fight, passion and determination throughout the season, things didn’t quite go to plan. The team finished third from bottom and suffered relegation. Although the result was disappointing, the lads never gave up, and their commitment to the club remained strong. At the end of the season, the club also said goodbye to four long-serving players, marking the end of an important chapter in the team’s journey.

2025 – A Season to Remember
Following relegation the previous season and the departure of four long-serving players, 2025 was all about rebuilding. With four new players joining the squad, the club set out to bounce back and make its mark. What followed was a season to remember! The league title came down to the very last day, with Old Wulfrunians facing Chaddesley, who only needed a draw to secure the championship. With everything on the line, the lads showed true Old Wulfs spirit, battling with grit, determination and passion to secure a memorable league-winning victory. Along the way, the team also reached the quarter-finals of the cup, scoring an incredible 137 goals and conceding just 29. The season ended in spectacular fashion, with a league title and double promotion, earning the club a place in Division 2. After the disappointment of relegation, the response was nothing short of remarkable, proving once again that the Old Wulfs spirit is alive and stronger than ever.
